| When moving, should I drive or fly and have my car and stuff shipped? I'm moving out to California in a few months to take a new job. I'm just out of college and am taking a starting position at this company. The only thing is I currently live (according to Google Maps), a 36 hour drive to Los Angeles. I can get a one-way plane ticket for less than $200 dollars (cheaper or the same as a train/bus ticket) and then have my car and stuff shipped (it's between $900 and $1500 to ship my car depending on the carrier) or I can drive across country with all of my stuff (around $250 in gas without a trailer so maybe more around $300 with) but it will take me several days, probably more like a week to get there so I'd probably stay at a lot of hotels. My only relatives that I could stay with are in Missouri which I would hit on my first day of travel and after that I'd be on my own, having to get hotels/camp grounds. So if I had to pay for five nights of hotels that's gonna be between $750 and $1000, so in reality it's not a lot cheaper to drive the thing. What are your thoughts on either scenario?? |
