I am passionate about the environment, nature, wildlife especially birds and preserving our fragile ecosystem for the benenfit of the creatures we share our earth with and for the future generations. I would like to pursue a career in this industry. What nationality are you? I am a South African but I was born in Namibia (when it was still South West Africa) in Swakopmund. I left when I was 8 as my father was transferred to South Africa. What languages do you speak (and at what level)? English - native speaker Afrikaans - native speaker Arabic - Beginner German - very basic Dutch - Reasonable What country or area are you looking to work in and why? I am very interested in a position in Namibia. This is the country of my birth and it is amazingly beautiful with a wonderfully rich natural diversity. What countries have you worked in? South Africa and Egypt What countries do you have a visa to work in? Egypt. Don't need one for South Africa obviously. What field do you currently work in? I am currently teaching English to adults in Port Said, Egypt. What fields have you worked in before? For the most part, bookkeeping, administration and secretarial. I have also done a bit of NPO work with poverty alleviation. My first position when leaving school was in the travel industry where I worked for a travel agency and then KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. What qualifications do you hold? South African matric (1985) and first year of Bcom. Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? Definitely skills. I know many people who have completed expensive degrees and have never done any practical work in their field. They are unable to function in that industry without further on the job training to improve their skills. Describe the benefits of working with others We are humans and as such, we are born to be with others and learn from them. Working with people more knowledgable than ourselves is a wonderful leanring experience and we can then impart this knowledge on to other who come after us. Describe the benefits of working alone Working alone allows us time to concentrate on the task at hand and give our best in completing the task. I enjoy working alone as it allows me to practice indepedence and self-reliance. What was your worst working experience? Being a receptionist. I found this to be the most boring job on the planet and I am a person who needs far more stimulating work than what this position offers. Needless to say, I didn't do it very long. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? To always have a teachable spirit. We never know everything and we can learn so much from people who have gone before us on our path. What unique skills do you have? I am very enqizzitive. I crave learning something new every day. I am also very hard working and efficient. I tackle each task with enthusiasm and work out the most effective and cost efficient way to complete it with excellent results. Second best is not good enough. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? Working with wild animals or birds in their natural habitat, preserving and conserving them for the future. Do you have any experience in your "dream job" field. I am an avid bird-watcher and have spent many hours in the bush with the Wits Bird Club in Johannesburg, SA, searching out our feathered friends. I do not have work experience as such but I am very eager to change my career path at this point in my life and move into this field. When are you hoping to start? I would love to start today. I am in Egypt teaching English to adults and I have a committment here for another 5 weeks. After that, I am free to move. How can potential employers contact you?
