My qualification is the Badge 2 Certificate of the Namibian Academy for Tourism and Hospitality (NATH).
Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?
I consider skills gained in practice as a valuable and necessary complement to a professional job training such as the one provided by the NATH courses.

The challenge of having the sole responsibility for your clients strengthens the confidence in your own skills and gives you the opportunity of organizing your job independently.
What was your worst working experience?
I was on a tour from Windhoek to Sossusvlei with two clients. On the way I had a car problem and it was getting late. About 20h I was in the Nauklauft area, in that pitch dark night I had a flat tire. I didn’t know how to take the spare tire from under the car because I had never before driven a vehicle with the spare tire underneath. I will never forget that! We had to spend the night sitting in the car until I got help in the morning.
What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?
I have found that it is vital for a tour guide to convey a positive attitude to the clients, displaying a good mood, so that the clients can feel comfortable and enjoy their day.
What unique skills do you have?
People tell me that I have a talent of reading from their eyes what would comfort them.
What would you consider as your 'dream job'?
I would love to be a tour consultant, designing tailor-made trips for my clients.
What are the most interesting aspects of your field?
I find it exciting that I get to know people from all over the world, of different nationalities and cultures. I love to share my country with them.
What are the least interesting aspects of your field?
20-hour-work days and getting up in the middle of the night :-(

From the end of May 2009 to beginning of August, during the peak tourist season.
