Any job where there is application of GIS and Remote Sensing technology for mapping, decision support, natural resource monitoring and management. I can also take up any job with geodatabase management, spatio-temporal analysis and environmental consultancy along the same lines. What nationality are you? No where else because my permit is valid for The Netherlands only though i am flexible if possible to work in any other Western european country. What countries have you worked in? Currently searching for a job after finishing graduate study in GIS and Remote Sensing for Natural Resource management. What fields have you worked in before? * Engineering industry * Civil service / Government * Research/ Scientific * Consultancy What qualifications do you hold? *MSc in Geoinformation Science and Earth Observation for Natural Resource Management (University of Twente, ITC, Netherlands) *BSc (Hons) Environmental Science and Health (National University of Science & Technology (NUST), Zimbabwe) Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? Though i consider skills to be more valuable, formal education forms a good basis for sharpening & effective deployment of skills. Formal eduaction without practical skills can be limiting. Skills on the other hand can translate the simplest of ideas into something tangible on the ground. Describe the benefits of working with others * More can be achieved by people working together than an individual most often. *Working together increases chances of success and minimises risk o of failure because we can draw from the diversity of strengths & expertise from different people. *It gives an opportunity to learn from others and also to share your own skills with others. Describe the benefits of working alone *You can make decisions quickly and execute tasks at times more efficiently without having to debate or consult too many people. * You can work in a more flexible way without having to inconvenience anyone. You have to the liberty and control of your work in soem autonomous way. * You can easily set your won targets and goals without having to consider any other person but your own capabilities. What was your worst working experience? * Having to work in an environment where bad corporate politics were given precedance over sound professional business ethics and reasonning. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? I have learnt to be open to learn as much as i can and to do my best under whatever circumstances i find myself in without compromise. And also that there is no one way of solving a problem - the books gave us an idea/guide but not the solution to every real life problem.Therefore i have learnt to be innovative. What unique skills do you have? * Possess expert knowledge & skills in application of GIS and Remote Sensing technology (Using various state of art GIS/Remote sensing equipment, Softwares such as ArcGIS 9.3.1; ERDAS 9.2, etc) * Excellent interpersonal and effective communication skills * Excellent writing skills (both technical & non-technical) * Competant in complex problem solving using simulation and modelling techiques. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? Developing and application of GIS and Remote Sensing technolgy in solving problems, mapping, managenemt and monitoring both man-made and natural resources and decision support. Also some consultancy and research work in this field. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? * Providing solutions to complex real-life problems and guiding decision making through sound scientific based inforrmation. * There is always something new to learn and the challenges are dynamic and thought-provoking. * Been abreast with cutting edge technology in Geo-iformation systems and being a part of the continuing research in this field. * Sharing new ideas and research findings with other experts. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? * At times one has to spend more time than usual working on the computer.
