Here I stayed for a short period during my M.S. course at ITC, Enschede, the Netherlands and IIRS (Indian Institute of Remote Sensing) Dehradun. During my short stay I found that the country and its people are so nice and also the work culture is very good. In the field of GIS there is lot of possiblities which will definately benefit me. What countries have you worked in? India. What countries do you have a visa to work in? Till now I have not obtained working Visa for any country. What field do you currently work in? Currently I am working as GIS Cordinator for DFID (Department for International Development -UK) and SPUR (Support Program of Urban Reforms in Bihar) Cell. My role is Implementation of GIS for 28 Urban Local Bodies in Bihar as part of E - Governance. What fields have you worked in before? I have been working in the field of GIS since Feb 2000 and till now worked in a number of Projects. Some of the Projects discussed below: 1. M.S in GIS and Remote Sensing from ITC, Enschede, the Netherlands M.Sc - Geology, from Patna University, Patna, India Diploma in Computing, NIIT, Patna, India Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? I think both are valuable as I started my career in the field of GIS in Feb 2000, at that time I was Master of Science in Geology and completed one year diploma in computing. After working more than three years I got an opportunity to join M.S. course in GIS & Remote Sensing under ITC and IIRS joint logo program. In July 2003 I joined that course and in March 2005 I completed the course as Batch topper. During this period I also worked in lot of Projects specially in the field of Disaster Management. Here the students were of different education background like planners, software developers, engineers and were concentrated on use of GIS and RS in the respective field so I also get benefited of that. In the professional life the projects in which I worked are diversified like Geology, Planning (Urban, Infrastructure), Agriculture. In the geology based GIS projects my formal eductaion worked along with GIS skill while for other projects experience and skill both played significant role. Describe the benefits of working with others For any type of work which is on vast scale we have to work in a team. Team means we get different idea to achive the goal. Definately it boost up our motivation. We increase our networking with differnt type of people. Describe the benefits of working alone The major benefit of working alone is more autonomy. It also allow to assemble own idea and thought to get the final output. What was your worst working experience? Working at the last company where I faced two times life warning from local leaders as they think that after implementation of GIS in the city the corporation may take action against them for not paying tax.The worst thing was neither the municipal corporation officials nor my company management supported me openly. So finally I left the job. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? Always try to learn new things even from your Juniors. As they may have some innovative idea. What unique skills do you have? I manage my team members very well. Time management to complete an assignment What would you consider as your 'dream job'? A job where I love the work, like the people, can contribute and can't wait to get to work What are the most interesting aspects of your field?
