What nationality are you? Dominican What languages do you speak (and at what level)? I am a native English speaker, Ialso speak fluent Chinese. What country or area are you looking to work in and why? I would like to work in any Caribbean Island, particularly Sint Maarten, because I have quite a large family circle legally living and working there. What countries have you worked in? I have worked in my native country, Dominica. I also did voluntary work in Beijing China. What field do you currently work in? I am awaiting my June 2011 Graduation From University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, China with a Bachelors Degree in Finance. What fields have you worked in before? I worked in Education, I have 4 years experience in Teaching High School Level. What qualifications do you hold? By June 2011, I will Graduate with a Bachelors Degree in Finance Advanced Level (associates equivalent) in Economics, Mathematics and Accounts from Dominica State College. Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? I think they are both valuable, and none should exist without the other. The both make a well rounded individual and each should be complimented with the other. Describe the benefits of working with others As they say "Two heads are better than one" and " No man is an island" . No one can be successful in isolation. Therefore I think that working with others is essential in achieving whatever goal it may be, whether it is for your own personal/professional benefit or otherwise. Working with others alow for diverse thinking and ideas, which lead to more efficient decision making. Describe the benefits of working alone Working alone one is able to push himself forward with only himself accountable for his failure or success. There is no scapegoat if you fail, so the push to do things right and make things work is much stronger than when working in a group where someone might be able to either share the blame or praise. What was your worst working experience? My worst working experience was actually simultaneously one of my best working experiences. What made it the worst was that my expectation of the job entailed much more than the job actually recommended from me. I hate being idle and i was idle alot during this job, despite my efforts to find things to do even by offering to help other dpartments with their tasks. I ended up joining another department unofficially, since my department did not have enought work to be done. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? I have learnt that what makes a person has nothing to do with where the person comes from. I could take many examples from what i have seen in China. China's rich and successful were ordinary people before the economic boom about 30 years ago. What made them who they are today is how they dealt with the their sudden extra disposable income, and the opportunities they saw in the shadows. Many people were farmers or just small businessmen, who have now turned into tycoons, simply by taking advantage of the opportunities that they saw before them. So i have learnt that the direction you take in life determines what you become, and you can be anything you choose, as long as you are willing to go the length to achieve it. What unique skills do you have? It's not quite common to find people from my part of the world being fluent in Chinese, so i guess this is one of the unique skills that i have acquired over the past five years. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? My dream job is one which not only gives me the ability to provide comfortably for my family, but one which i can go to every day knowing that i am making a difference in someone else's life. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? I think the financial field has become extremely important. So much today revolves around the financial aspect that it seems almost impossible to be successful without being financially savvy or hiring a professional. I have seen where people of all walks of life could experience improvements in their lives with just a little financial advice. What are the most challenging aspects of your field? The financial field has many challenges. Most of it is based on assumptions, speculations, and predictions, although usually based on solid events or trends, which if turn out to be wrong can result in very unfavorable situations.
