What field do you currently work in?

I liveaboard my yacht

What fields have you worked in before?

retired from active work as medical anthropologist and operating as tourism entrepeneur, I also worked as art teacher, woodwork and technjical drawing teacher

What qualifications do you hold?

teachers degree high school fine art

post graduate moral counselling, focus on medical anthropology from University of Gent, Belgium

Coastal Skipper (Mozambican Qualification Padrao de Costa), South Africa Restricted Marine Radio Operator

Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?

Life experience applying formal and informal learning to achieve high standards in whatever I do

Describe the benefits of working with others

Absorbing the knowledge they have as a sponge, satisfying need for social contact we humans crave

Describe the benefits of working alone

testing ones limits, proving to yourself your strengths and your weaknesses

What was your worst working experience?

Being forced to dance with Sangomas in South Africa Zululand for entire night, then muscle spasms for week

What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?

humility, my qualities in face of emergency

What unique skills do you have?

lots of languages, ability to understand cultures, make quality friends, love, be fish in the water, first aid, fine artist, computer literacy, high level of seamanship, recognizing danger and deal with it, physical strength, mcgyver type of diy man when needed, lots of time as liveaboard in African waters gave me savoir vivre couldnt have gotten any other way, love animals, children, very eco conscious with knowledge to back that up, born teacher, technical savy, mechanics, welding, woodwork, electricity yachts...

What would you consider as your 'dream job'?

skipper of yacht with life savvy owner who respects me and my partner and enjoys good life with high standard of food and drink, in tropical setting where my yacht owner experience will show anchoring, communicating with locals, gunkholing, exploring

Also most important taking me with my partner who is Mozambican with Masters Degree in Community Development and Tourism, who is fluent in English and Portuguese and has liveaboard with me making her experienced sailor and problem sover of highest level, added quality very beautifull extyrovert and great communicator, great cook, enjoys great wines and life

What are the most interesting aspects of your field?

being multiskilled so not one field can be isolated, am master of many trades, art, teaching, navigating, sailing, motoring yacht, fixing thingsa that break, organizing people

What are the least interesting aspects of your field?

having to deal with administration typical to 3th world economies
