Seeking Teaching and/or Tutoring JobWhat type of job are you looking for? The type of job that I am striving to obtain is one that allows me to work with students to achieve his/her highest potential. As an experienced educator, I would like to find a teaching job that involves teaching the English language. Also, I would like to find a job teaching any subject matter on the elementary (1 - 8) level. What nationality are you? My nationality is of the United States of America. What languages do you speak (and at what level)? English is my proficient language. What country or area are you looking to work in and why? The country/area that I am looking to work in is the Netherlands Antilles. After visiting the beautiful and warming island of St. Martin, along with the experience of encountering hospitable and welcoming residents, I arrived home with a desire to return...but to contribute in a way that would help the residents of this beautiful island in a positive way. Being an educator and having a love for teaching, I feel that my expertise and desire to make a difference in any one persons life would be a great reward for both the educator and the student. What countries have you worked in? I have worked in the United States of America. What countries do you have a visa to work in? I have a visa to work in the Netherlands Antilles What field do you currently work in? I am currently a certified elementary education teacher. What qualifications do you hold? The qualifications I hold are as follows: Associates degree in General Studies Bachelors degree in Elementary Education Three years of experience teaching/tutoring summer remediation Two years teaching/tutoring after school remediation Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? Formal education is by far the most valuable. The reason for my believing this is because formal education surpasses what is required for your career/field of choice. A formal education involves making one a well rounded, well educated individual. Though one may not feel that a course, or many courses in the beginning, are relevant to their desired occupation...formal education aims toward a certain career choice, but includes educating and formally rounding off an educated college graduate. Describe the benefits of working with others I feel there are many benefits that come from working with others. In my experience, I have learned a great deal of knowledge by observing, listening, and having an open mind to constructive criticism. The greatest benefit of working with others is, in my opinion, sharing ideas and techniques. No one person thinks alike, and others may have a better, or more efficient way of accomplishing a lesson or task. The greatest benefit of working with others is learning...learning from each other. Describe the benefits of working alone The benefits of working alone is having solitude to get ideas and plans put together for a lesson. Focus is a key element that I have to obtain in order to compose lesson plans. After generating ideas, gathering thoughts, and meeting with other teachers, working alone to focus on lesson planning is a major factor. What was your worst working experience? I would consider my "worst" as the most shocking working experience. Being raised in a caring, middle income household with two loving parents, I was oblivious to any other way of life. Never did I witness neglect, drug use, nor did I think that any parent would choose to burn their own child with a cigarette. My first year teaching at an elementary school with a low SES jolted me into the real world. The stories children shared, the burns and scars that I took pictures of, the lack of parental support...these all led me to strive harder to make a difference in each one of their lives. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? The number one most important lesson that I have learned throughout my career is that I may not reach or make a difference in all of my students lives, but if I reach just one, then I have made a difference. What unique skills do you have? I have skills in teaching on the elementary level, focusing on test taking skills and standardized tests. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? My 'dream job' entails teaching overseas. I am at a place in my life where I feel I could make a difference teaching in another country. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? There are many interesting aspects in my field. Teachers make all other professions possible. Doctors, lawyers, even rocket scientists have all had people who taught them the skills and knowledge that they need to know to succeed. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? By far, the least interesting aspects of my field is the paperwork. Sometimes, although many times, I feel very overwhelmed with growth improvement forms, lunch counts, new curriculum guides, and so on and on. What is the most rewarding part of your job? The most rewarding part of my job is when a struggling student "gets" it. That is the best and most rewarding feeling a teacher can have. How can potential employers contact you?
