Teaching in Bonaire

What type of job are you looking for?

I am looking for a job as an English tutor or teacher.

What nationality are you?

American.

What languages do you speak (and at what level)?

I speak English. I have a masters degree and over ten years experience as an international English teacher and tutor.

What country or area are you looking to work in and why?

Bonaire. My husband and I will be moving to Bonaire and I would like to work as well.

What countries have you worked in?

United States, Korea.

What field do you currently work in?

Education.

What fields have you worked in before?

I have worked as a teacher, editor, and communications specialist for non-profits.

What qualifications do you hold?

A masters degree.

Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?

I consider both important. Formal education is important for an individual's own personal path. Without a formal education, they may lack the confidence necessary to pursue their own goals and dreams. However, if an individual needs to just get by in a country or communicate with an individual from another country for a job, the skill set may be more important for them, i.e. understanding why the language or grammar works a certain way.

Describe the benefits of working with others

Working with others gives someone an opportunity to learn and grow. Only through our interactions with others do we get outside of ourselves and learn how others tick.

Describe the benefits of working alone

You can typically work at your own pace and there is no one to bother you.

What was your worst working experience?

My worst working experience was working in a theater as a development director. I worked with a group of people who had a very different vision from myself and it became very trying going into work everyday and being at odds with my fellow colleagues. I believe that an individual and an organization need to essentially be pursuing the same thing, otherwise it's like beating your head against a wall every day.

What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?

Follow your own intuition and try to do something meaningful.

What unique skills do you have?

I am a good teacher. I enjoy working with others. I like to help others find their own path and I believe that providing a service is typically the most meaningful work someone can find.

What would you consider as your 'dream job'?

Owning my own bed and breakfast.

What are the most interesting aspects of your field?

I like to meet new people.

What are the least interesting aspects of your field?

Not being able to help someone.

What was the best job of my life?

Teaching at a hagwan in Chung Ju, Korea. The children and adults I worked with for that year were truly some of the best people I've ever met. They taught me about myself and hopefully I taught them something as well. It was such a wonderful time for me.

How can potential employers contact you?

Via email- lvanheijningen@yahoo.com
