| I am a caregiver to my mother who has Stage 4 Colon Cancer and financially we ar I work 30 hours a week and net about $1100 a month. My mothers social security is $1140. With that money we pay property taxes (in New Jersey so that is a big chunk of money), utilities, supplemental medical insurance, car maintenance and gas, food and co-pays for medical and pharmacy. I have my mother on a state supported pharmacy plan which helps alot. We have numerous household issues that need to be fixed: a roof, the dryer and hot water heaters are on their last legs, our front porch needs work and our kitchen floor is falling apart, and recently our oven has broken and we were told it wasn't' worth fixing it since it is so old. I am putting together the endless copies needed to apply for food stamps. And there is the threat of the plant I am working at closing (I was unemployed for 6 months after losing my job to outsourcing, my current job offers me benefits and a schedule to where I am available to bring my mother to the doctors). If you were in my place what would be the steps you would take to get your life more financially stable and get the repairs done to the items that are a necessary to a home. Thanks for your time. |
