Looking for sponsord employment as Brtender in New York

What type of job are you looking for?

I am looking for a Bartending position up to management level, ideally in a fast paced, busy environment serving classic cocktails with an emphasis on mixology.

What languages do you speak (and at what level)?

English (fluently) Spanish ( very basic)

What State are you looking to work in and why?

Ideally New York as I feel the pace of life here suits me and the culture around cocktails and innovative nature of the bar scene in New York is inspiring. It would be great working somewhere that the skill and talent involved in great bartending and the level of customer service I pride my self on will be most appreciated.

What field do you currently work in?

Business development and retail

What fields have you worked in before?

I have spent the last 20 years of my life developing and increasing my skills in bartending and the running of bars, from stocking reach ins to training bar backs and bartenders.

What qualifications do you hold?

10 G.C.S.E. passes, A-levels and industry based qualifications such as first aid and a U.K. Personal licence.

Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?

At the age of going to University I had already decided that I wanted a career in bars and at that time there were no University courses in that field so I chose to increse my skill set rather than go for formal qualifications. The skills I have aquired can be transfered into many different industries whereas a degree may only prove a level of commitment and discipline or give a graduate a paricular knowledge of a limited field.

Describe the benefits of working with others

A good team is there to provide support to all members and is a great source of learning and development if utilized correctly, I have have been fortunate to learn from people with more and less experience than me and have always believed that no matter how new a member of the team may be they are just as relevant as the oldest member and are a way of aquiring a different perspective, one that is less insular than the established team.

Describe the benefits of working alone

If a particular task requires focus it can be benificial to have no distractions, although counter intuitive one person can sometimes get the work of two people done quicker by working alone.

What was your worst working experience?

When I was employed by one of the worlds biggets branded restaurant chains I had the misfortune of working under cowardly line manager who when challenged by the general manager about the quality of a particular item the line manager blamed me, even though I was following the specific instruction of the line manager. The line manager was subsequently promoted to general manager and then fiered for embeselment.

What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?

To listen and not to judge.

What unique skills do you have?

20 years worth of research into the history of cocktails and the production of all alcoholic beverages including Vodka, Gin, Tequila, all Whisk(e)ys; beers, ciders and wines. Speed and efficiency of movement and being able to remember up to 10 orders of multiple drinks at once.

What would you consider as your 'dream job'?

Working in an environment that was very fast paced and busy with a strong, well taught team of people with a position that involved a lot of development and coaching of others.

The two aspects of bartending I have enjoyed the most throughout my career is building strong lasting relationships with customers and collegues alike with a strong emphasis on the coaching and development of younger bartenders and bar backs.

What are the most interesting aspects of your field?

There is always more to learn and every day is different, you never really know what is going to happen in any given day or night and you are always meeting new and different people.

Every new person is an opportunity to learn and every new thing learnt is something to be able to pass on to others.

What are the least interesting aspects of your field?

Having to inebriated people which is an unfortunate but neccessay point of working with alcoholic beverages.

What are your greatest strengths?

Compassion, empathy, patience and a strong commitment to the development of others.
