Development professional working with Jamaican Marginalised Groups

What type of job are you looking for?

I have extensive experience working with and mobilizing marginalised groups in Jamaica. I am looking for a job to work with the Jamaican and other marginalised groups in New York around HIV prevention, treatment and care programmes.

What languages do you speak (and at what level)?

I speak English at master level and speak spanish at the intermediary level.

What State are you looking to work in and why?

I am looking for a job in New York because i have family there and have recognised the high concentration of Jamaicans in that area.

What field do you currently work in?

I currently work in the field of HIV and empowerment for sex workers, drug users, gay lesbian, and transgender people.

What fields have you worked in before?

Accounting and Finance

What qualifications do you hold?

B.Sc. In Accounting and international Relations

Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?

I think both of them have value and compliment each other. My experience as an Accoutant/Finance Manager has enabled me to have a queer understanding and appreciation of both sides of the story, and allows me to apply my accounting skills and reasoning to the development and monitoring of effective programmes.

Describe the benefits of working with others

Working with others, allows one to draw on past experiences of the members, bounce ideas and eventually end up with one that is rounded and solid. The Feedback provided in a group can generate discussion around issues that would not have been easily identified by just one person.

Describe the benefits of working alone

Working alone allows one autonomy over decisions and settles the importance of knowing what needs to happen, at the end of the day, the responsibility for success or challenges relies with one person.

What was your worst working experience?

I have not had any to date. I am a passionate person who puts my all into my projects. As I have been younger than my counterparts in many situations, getting the support of staff did present as one of my worst experiences. When I was promoted to Exectuive Director of Jamaica AIDS Support for Life after 9 months of being on board the staff did not take it very well and laid blame at my feet for the resignation of other managers. That was horrible.

What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?

I have learnt to take a step back at times. Support is critical and there are techniques to getting that support from your team members. I have also learnt to guard oneself so as to not allow passions to burn out myself.

What unique skills do you have?

I am fantastic at communicating with grass roots persons as well as others. I am a people person, great at writing proposals and reports, i have a very strong appreciation for monitoring and evaluation.

What would you consider as your 'dream job'?

My dream job would be one in which I am able to contribute to someones development and see them move from a state of brokenness to being self empowered.

What are the most interesting aspects of your field?

Seeing persons move from a state of despair to hope

What are the least interesting aspects of your field?

Seeing persons remain at current circumstances without the support of family and friends to assist them in moving forward.

How soon would you be able to relocate to start working

I would be able to relocate with at least one months notice

How can potential employers contact you?

I may be contacted via email @ stacyannjarrett@gmail.com or telephone at 1876-365-6570
