Currently a Retail Manager and looking to further my knowledge and skills by working abroad What languages do you speak (and at what level)? I speak fluent English and Spanish What State are you looking to work in and why? New York is the city that most appeals to me because of its reputation as one of the greatest cities in the world but willing to work in any major US city What field do you currently work in? Retail Management in Australias biggest supermarket franchise What fields have you worked in before? Worked in the Hospitality industry with Westin Hotels as a Food and Banquet and Bar attendant What qualifications do you hold? I hold a Responsible Service of Alcohol and Gambling which is a licence you need to work in any alcohol or gambling establishment and currently studying Certificate III in Retail Management Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? They are both as important as each other and depending on what field of work your involved in. Formal education is probably the most important if your dealing with customers on a day to day basis,it gives the individual and the business a greater perseption of professionalism. Skills can always be learnt and taught. Describe the benefits of working with others Working within a team is very important in order to have a successful business. You always learn things from each other and it also gives employees a chance to develop leadership skills when passing down knowledge to the less experienced staff Describe the benefits of working alone Working alone develops your time management skills and decision making skills which can be very valuable when working in a fast paced environment What was your worst working experience? Several years ago we had an emergency alarm go off in the premises and trying to calm down the customers and get them out safely was challenging but in the end it all went well What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? No individual is above the other. When working within a team everybodys input is important from the more senior employee to the new staff memember. Alot more can be accomplished as a team than when an idividual thinks they can do it all themselves What unique skills do you have? Im fortunate to be able to speak two languages which is very important in my field of work and i also posess good customer communication skills which has developed over the years with my role as Manager. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? My dream job would be to work in a major hotel franchise as a section Manager. I love to travel and experience the cultures of the world, and achieving such a job role would open the door to endless possibilities within the hospitality industry What are the most interesting aspects of your field? Being able develop and nourish the less experienced staff talents. Having the chance to be a leader everyday and seeing my staff grow as employees is a great satisfaction What are the least interesting aspects of your field? Customers can be tough sometimes. Every person expects different levels of service, but in the end my job depends on customers satisfaction and it is my job to ensure that customer will leave the place happy and satisfied and come back again. Customer is always right. Why did i choose the Retail Industry?? The retail and hospitality industry are probably the most important industries to be involved in. People will always need to eat and buy clothes, electronic goods,etc so its a never ending industry and with the right skills and knowledge your possibilities of progression and to be successful are very high How can potential employers contact you?
