COUNTRY DIRECTOR: · BwB seeks a results-oriented individual with creativity, drive and leadership skills to direct its programs in Nicaragua. The goal of BwB Nicaragua is to improve the access and quality of education by assisting rural communities in the Madriz region in building primary schools and involving US students in the process. II. PRIMARY PURPOSE AND FUNCTION: · Ensure that the construction of primary schools is run efficiently and in adherence to BwB methodology · Oversee financial accountability and controls, including: banking; project fund requests; spending and disbursement processes; record keeping; monthly reporting; submission of supporting documents for audit; year-end reconciliation; payroll; and government compliance · Seek out strategic regional partnerships with NGO’s, government ministries and other interested parties · Maintain necessary communication with partner communities and seek out new project sites · Manage staff responsible for school construction · Maintain frequent communication with home office III. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: · Monitor school construction projects to assure accordance to BwB methodology, plans and budget · Prepare and submit financial accounting documents for review by home office accountants · Ensure quality control in construction; document improvements in methodology and related manuals · Assist in project site selection · Participate and facilitate U.S. donor treks in the region · Manage and direct Project Coordinator and field staff responsible for primary school construction · Perform other duties as assigned by BwB International Program Coordinator (IPC) and VP International Programs (VPIP). IV. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: · Proficiency of spoken and written English; Fluency in Spanish. · 3-4 years experience with financial accounting and bookkeeping methods · Motivated, creative individual with an interest in grassroots development and improving the quality education in rural areas of Nicaragua · Extensive knowledge of the Madriz region · Ability and willingness to travel to and sleep in rudimentary conditions (i.e. no electricity, no running water, few modern medical facilities). · Proficiency in Microsoft Office Preferred: · Bachelor’s Degree · Knowledge of basic construction principals · Group facilitation skills and public speaking experience · Ability to ride a motorcycle Start Date: January 2007 Location: Somoto, Nicaragua.
