What is a Social Security Disability Hearing like? Fortunately, Social Security Disability Court is not like a big courtroom that you might have down in the Criminal or Civil Courthouse. In some cases its not much bigger than a typical say Lawyers office. You typically are sitting at a table and at the end of it there is a Social Security Judge maybe up on a little podium one step above you. Theres always some who is running the tape recorder, the Judges assistant and almost inevitably there will be a vocational expert who is there to testify on what type of jobs are available and what were the various requirements of all your past jobs. And at times you may have a Medical Doctor from Social Security. You will be there of course your Attorney will be there. You can bring a witness or two. How long do the hearings last? The answer it could be anywhere from ten minutes to an hour and ten minutes frequently. So basically you will have an opportunity and your lawyer will have an opportunity to present your case to the Judge and you will be able to tell somebody finally face to face what type of problems you are having that are keeping you from working and why you should get your Social Security Disability or SSI check.
