Safety & Training position in the Mining Industry - experienced in greenfield and brownfield. First stage to develop and implement, second stage to workplace train and mentor.

Papua New Guinea

Interested in providing support in upskilling nationals to provide them with the tools, skills and knowledge to work to a higher capacity and positively contribute to their economic and social independence and self sufficiency.

What qualifications do you hold?

Diploma of Management Cert IV Trainer Assessor Cert IV Occupational Health & Safety Advanced Diploma of Applied Science Certificate of Supply

Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?

The value of formal education and skills will depend upon the focus, role and responsibilities of the position. Both can be attained on the job.

Formal education via traineeships or continued studies, can provide up to date information and methodologies which can be incorporated into current skills.

Skills can constantly be upgraded and fine tuned through appropriate workplace application and mentoring. This can contribute towards a focused understanding of the task(s) and contribution to opportunities for continuous improvement.

Describe the benefits of working with others

Working positively with the team provides the opportunity to develop interdependent relationships which allows for self management of own work tasks while having communications and cooperation with others to ensure that objectives and time parameters are met successfully.

Describe the benefits of working alone

Working solo can embed self reliance, self management and taking responsibility for decisions.

To undertake specific work tasks alone allows for personal abilities and skills to be utilised and contributes to the processing of specialist activities to meet business objectives.

What was your worst working experience?

6 months of workplace bullying by a fellow manager while implementing change management strategies in "right sizing" for TAFE SA.

This resulted in formal action to be implemented and an opportunity to assess the process in place and identify its integrity and usability.

What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?

I am responsible for the development of my own career path and success.

No one will know where I want to be till I let them know, and am prepared to take on board and act upon the advice offered by those who recognise my potential and abilities.

What unique skills do you have?

What would you consider as your 'dream job'?

Advisor/Coach/Workplace Trainer for PNG nationals, particularly in the OH&S and Administrative sectors.

What are the most interesting aspects of your field?

Reviewing and identifying training needs and operational inefficiencies and with this analysed information support the development of strategic actions plans to fill the gaps while linking outcomes with organisational and government objectives.

What are the least interesting aspects of your field?

Waiting for the next challenge.

Why would we choose you for a position?

*My work ethics include loyalty and commitment, particularly to an organisation that reflects similar beliefs and values to my own.

*By nature I am able to look below the surface of things and do not take things at face value.

*My concern for others is genuine and I exude a controlled benevolence which is a key factor in guiding people to move forward.

*Have no personal encumbrances and willing to travel and work in isolated and resource scarce locations.
