Interview for job seeking

What type of job are you looking for?

The type of job I'm looking for is the one that fits my expertise. I I newly graduated from Bachelor of Science in Nursing and I want to find a job. I got no experience except the related learning experiences that is part of the Nursing's education curriculum. And so, I could accept work as at an entry level in a hospital like that as a nursing assistant and about six months, can advance to a real nurse staff. I just took the licensure exam on July 6 and 7, 2009.

What nationality are you?

I am a Filipino. I was actually born in Brunei and when I was about one year old, my mom brought me to Philippines. She's working until today in Brunei.

What languages do you speak (and at what level)?

I could speak English fairly and to improve, I just enrolled an English Proficiency Program in our place. I can speak Filipino language and if I get hired, my mom can teach me Malay language. She's been working in Brunei long before I was born and still.

What country or area are you looking to work in and why?

I want to work especially in Brunei to see my birthplace and to be with my mom. She seldom went home to Philippines and I think I would still feel I'm home when I work there.

What countries do you have a visa to work in?

none.

What fields have you worked in before?

I'm a fresh graduate. But during my college days, I experienced having duty in operating room, pedia ward, the medical ward, recovery room, communicable disease ward, in the delivery room.

What qualifications do you hold?

I posses a Bachelor's degree in Nursing. And soon to be a registered nurse this August 2009. I'm a fast learner and open to learning.

Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?

In general, it's both. But if I should choose between the two, it's the skills. Even if one knows the theory, knowledge and memorize the procedure, it is so difficult to apply especially in emergency situations. So constant exposure to a situation is needed like practicing to master a skill. That is why someone who is so competent on a skill is believed by everyone else and somewhat possesses an expert power. Formal education is the basis of what someone does and as important. But if one is on a field of work, skills is the weapon.

Describe the benefits of working with others

No man is an island. That is why one should maintain a harmonious relationship with his or her colleague to produce a quality service. To understand a statement, it is best explained by an example. If a staff nurse who is caring for a 300-pound client and needs to transfer him to a bed stretcher for an x- ray, she needs assistance from her co- worker. But what if she a conflict developed between them. The nurse might protect her pride and to do so, plans to carry the patient by herself. Thus, there is a risk for fall for the patient.

Describe the benefits of working alone

Some instances that doesn't need so much manpower and strength like preparing medications or building a nurse-patient relationship can be done alone. It will give way to self awareness, room for own growth and independence.

What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?

Many people took up nursing because it is in demand. In short, because we get to work abroad and earn money. But a reviewer once told us that it took him ten years to grasp the idea that he is a nurse. He first worked as a salesman. Nursing is using one's heart and viewing our patients as holistic person not seeing them with a dollar sign.

What would you consider as your 'dream job'?

My dream job is as a staff nurse, one that suits my expertise. To be part of the operating room staff and be expert in that field.

Why did you took up nursing?

I took up nursing because my aunts told me so. My mom wanted me to be a teacher and mu choice, that time I still have no idea. Now that I've graduated from that course, I will live and uphold it's purpose, to give care to people, sick or well.
