April 2004 Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? Both are valuable, of course, but skills is more important for performing tasks related to a skill, and for interacting with customers. Describe the benefits of working with others Teamwork, comraderie, companionship Describe the benefits of working alone Independence, responsibility, self reliance What was your worst working experience? I worked for a Chinese woman in Taiwan, and the work was back-breaking. She asked me to help her plant crops. I had to do all kinds of detailed cleaning and she didn;t pay me. AFter fighting with her for a week, and threatening to take her to the labor board, she finally paid. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? To be just as careful choosing an employer, as employers need to be, choosing an employee. What unique skills do you have? A lot of patience and loving care with children. I also enjoy teaching them English and helping them with homework. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? To be employed by a well-paying, kind family, who travels often, and would take me with them abroad to care for their children. This way I would be employed AND see the world. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? Interaction with children. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? Frivolous, non-au pair related, or un-necessary work such as ironing underwear or waxing the car, being loaned out to friends or relatives to work for them for free, or helping to pick crops, etc etc. A little housework is OK, if called for in the job description. I'm very experienced in housekeeping, as well as nanny.
