applying for a teaching job

What type of job are you looking for?

I'd like to look for a teaching job. Currently, I am a Public secondary School Teacher handling Technology & Livelihood Education subject.

What languages do you speak (and at what level)?

Tagalog and English.

What State are you looking to work in and why?

I'd like to work in Guam, because I heard it's almost like Phils. There are lots of Filipino there according to reports.

What field do you currently work in?

I am connected at DepEd, a Public secondary school teacher.

What fields have you worked in before?

I worked as a cahier, then auditor in a department store. My current job is actually my fifth job.

What qualifications do you hold?

I have my civil service eligibility, both Sub-Prof and Professional level; I am a board passer [Professional Board Examination for Teachers]; National Certificate for Baking and Pastry Production[TESDA]

Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?

At my age, I would rather consider skills. Because you can read books, you can be more knowledgeable; but you do need to acquire skills you needed in your daily life. Like at the rate I'm doing today, I'm just developing my skills in Computer, and I feel I'm doing good with it. I'm actually just been through with my grades in school using the Microsoft excel, look at how such skills amazingly helped me a lot!

Describe the benefits of working with others

It really helps us to improve a lot, particularly when working with those whom you do not really know [or you do not want to work with]. It can help you to develop patience, professionalism, and working with utmost care, because you do not want others to find fault in your work. You can also learn from your co-workers in your day-to-day interaction.

Describe the benefits of working alone

I'd rather not to work alone. I like to have someone to talk to while working. It helps me to ease pressure above the pile of papers; it lessens the stress of work.

What was your worst working experience?

My encounter with the school principal where she gave me harsh words. [Anyway, it helps me to strengthen my character.]

What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?

Love your work. It will help you to feed your family. But leave the work if you're no longer happy with it. There are lots of opportunities waiting for you out there....

What unique skills do you have?

I am a teacher, but I feel my unique skill is to handle people as in, if there is a little business, I can handle those people excellently. I also have some skills in basic accounting. Maybe this is because I always have an inclination for business.

What would you consider as your 'dream job'?

To manage my own little business. I'm happy with it. And to work happily is my dream.

What are the most interesting aspects of your field?

Being a teacher, you need to be multi-talented. You need to develop good human relations because you are dealing with High School students. There are varied school activities and you need to take charge in there, as in cooking contest, hosting job for a program, singing and dancing as the need arises, computer works like preparing programs, grades, et.al; guidance and counselling and so many other field you need to get acquaint yourself with.

What are the least interesting aspects of your field?

Its the salary. You will not be able to enjoy life just by the salary you are receiving. I do not adhere to the adage of the Civil service commission that as a public servant you need to live a simple life. But I could not even afford a simple life, sooner, my family will be living a miserable life because of my very little income. My kids are growing fast and their expenses are getting bigger. Another not so good feature of my job is the promotion. Promotion is based on papers, not on actual performance. Its not how hard you work and perspire, but its how many certificates do you have...so sad.

Please replace this with a question of your own

Could I be able to bring in there my whole family at the soonest time possible? [It's so hard to be far away from your family for so long].

How can potential employers contact you?
