Ideal would be rehabilation for substance misusers, but am willing to do anything. What nationality are you? British What languages do you speak (and at what level)? very basic french What country or area are you looking to work in and why? Algarve, Portugal because I have a house there. What countries have you worked in? England What field do you currently work in? Senior Practitioner - Prison link worker, working with offenders who are serving custodial sentences. What fields have you worked in before? hotel management, secretarial, childcare, National Probation, reception, retail management, law, substance misuse, criminal justice What qualifications do you hold? OCN level 3 substance misuse practitioners course NVQ level 3 in childcare 7 x CSE Pitmans elementary and intermediate (typing courses) Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? skills as this is hands on learnt rather than from a text book, but both are valuable to gain knowledge and understanding. Describe the benefits of working with others The benefits of working with others is gaining more information, learning from others experiences, acting as a team, not feeling alienated, sharing thoughts and experiences, gain a better understanding of issues arising or that could arise, to gain best practice. Describe the benefits of working alone Working alone allows you to organise yourself without impacting on others, have control of your diary and work load. Use your own initiative, What was your worst working experience? I had one occasion when I was being bullied, although a horrible experience, it did not last long because I sought help from my manager and having broken down the issues, they weren't actually directed at me but the situation and this helped build bridges and a better working relationship with that person. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? to be approachable and listen. What unique skills do you have? I feel that I am a good communicator, I always have an open door policy. I am approachable and a good team player, though I am also happy to work alone. I put 100% into my job and I am loyal, realiable and trustworthy. I have a lot of transferrable skills which makes me quite diverse in looking for various positions. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? I don't have a 'dream job' as such, if I am happy with my work in can be in any field. I am as happy behind a reception desk as I am on the wings of a prison. I do like working in the criminal justice system - but I am not sure I will be able to do this abroad, so would be happy in the role of secretary/receptionist/PR/PA preferrably a more senior role if possible. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? At the moment building up the relationships with prison staff and charitable organisations that help offenders. I love doing harm minimisation work with offenders and alternative thinking because sometimes it can be the little things that offenders do to reoffend that can be easily addressed with a little help to stop reoffending. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? Imputing all the data into the computer because it's triplicated at the moment due to systems not being quite right at the moment. I would prefer one system accessed by all organisations whether statutory services or not if they are all supposed to working as one team. At the moment there is a lot of protective information that people need to access but they can't - hence triplicated the work to get it on everyones systems. What did you see as being a success in your current role? Due to the project being new, I created a Prison Link information pack and powerpoint presentation for the Government that is still in use today! Very satisfying. How can potential employers contact you? Easiest and most reliable way would be at my aol email address which is: yvechidgey@aol.com |
