What type of job are you looking for?
I am looking for a teaching post in a secondary School as a PE/Sports teacher. However, I would also consider work in the leisure/sports industry
What nationality are you?
British nationality, with Portuguese father.
What languages do you speak (and at what level)?
I obviously speak English, and although I do not speak Portuguese fluently I would just need a few months in the country to remember the language, rather than learning the language from scratch.
What country or area are you looking to work in and why?
I am looking to return to my country of birth, Portugal and would ideally like to work in The Alagrve, although I would seriously consider Lisbon/Lisboa
What countries have you worked in?
Having been brought up in the UK I have only worked in England.
What countries do you have a visa to work in?
I have a British passport allowing me to work in the EU.
What field do you currently work in?
I am currently employed in a Sports College as a department leader in the Physical Education department.
What fields have you worked in before?
I am a level 2 FA qualified Football/Soccer coach and have coached to the age of 16. I have previously also worked in the banking sector as a customer services advisor, and have also got sales experience in the retail sector
What qualifications do you hold?
I am a University graduate with an Honours degree in teaching.
Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?
I believe hands on experience is the most valuable asset a person can gain, as although a good educational background is important, nothing is more essential than being able to cope in the 'real' world. The skills you build up and utilise on a daily basis makes you a more confident worker.
Describe the benefits of working with others
I have always been a 'team' player and believe the skills and morals you can learn from others you work with are a benefit to you as an individual. People can always learn from others and if you can employ the best assetts from others you can become a very valuable person in the work place.
Describe the benefits of working alone
Working alone is something I have also had to contend with as a department leader, and sole time allows you to sit back and focus on the needs of you, others and the department you work in. Working alone is sometimes essential for being able to focus on the task at hand.
What was your worst working experience?
My worst working experience was sales, but only because of the shop I was in. The shop was not busy at all and I spent too much time watching the world go by. I like to keep busy and feel that people are dependent on me.
What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?
I believe the most important lesson I have learnt throughout the years is 'prioritising'. I believe one must prioritise their work in order to ensure success. Do not leave things to the last minute or the quality will deminish.
What unique skills do you have?
I believe I am a very adaptable person, which allows me to way up situations and people and conform appropriately. My ability to communicate with people has often been mentioned as my strength, and listening is an important part of this.
What would you consider as your 'dream job'?
I would like to work in a forward thinking company/School in a warm, sunny, lively environment. Although work is important, rest and play allows you to re-charge the batteries.
What are the most interesting aspects of your field?
Working with children means your day is never the same. Children often do not lie about their emotions and teaching children to learn is treated with the reward that they give you the day they leave the school and remind you what a 'fab' teacher you are.
Wjat are the least interesting aspects of your field?
Unfortunately, living and working in the UK as a PE teacher means that for the majority of the year one must work outside in the cold and rain.
What are my life ambitions
I would like to settle down in Portugal, live a comfortable and honest life having encountered many wonderful experiences throughout my life.
