Looking for work....What type of job are you looking for? Graphic Artist (no formal schooling). Simple Computer repair. Forklift Driver. Warehouse worker. Anything having to do with animals. What languages do you speak (and at what level)? English I am learning Spanish through the Michael Thomas Program and think I am picking up fast. What State are you looking to work in and why? Puerto Rico. If your here then you know why I want to stay. What field do you currently work in? Currently unemployed What fields have you worked in before? Graphic Artist (Signs and wraps) I am a really good, safe Forklift operator (certified). I have also done Q/A (National Gypsum) I worked a lot with powder-coating and Plastisol (including a walk-in sand-blaster) in the Navy. I am good at a lot of things that are useless here. I did drywall finishing for a long time. I've worked at 3 plants. One was a steel mill. One was a roofing company making tar paper. One was for National Gypsum. I also spent a lot of my younger years working with my father doing remodeling and carpentry. What qualifications do you hold? In the Navy I qualified as a First Class Swimmer, Fireman, and Electrician (3rd class). Basic CPR (not current) Computer nerd, especially Linux. Forklift Driver. Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? Tough question. I would lean towards skills. Not to say education is not important, but book knowledge in general only qualifies one to teach. Hands-on is the best way for me to learn. Describe the benefits of working with others More than one brain, more than two hands, generally makes the work go more efficiently. Being able to share opinions and experience makes for a smoother process. Describe the benefits of working alone Sometimes working alone gives a little time for introspection and helps develop personal experiences and approaches to the work. What was your worst working experience? Shut-downs at a steel mill. We had to drain the cooling tanks and clean out the foot or so of sediment at the bottom with 6 inch industrial vacuum hoses ran by tanker trucks. Also cleaning up all the scrap metal and lime on top of water tanks. This wouldn't have been so bad, but we had to wear long sleeves, Tyvek suits and gloves, and it was between 105-120 degrees for 12 hour shifts. I drank 3 gallons of water a day. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? Spend as much time as possible with the people who have been there longest. I always learned faster and avoided a lot of the "new guy" mistakes. What unique skills do you have? I do mixed-media sculpture and oil paintings. I was at one time ranked 29th in the world at a very popular on-line tactical assault game. I mentioned I am a computer nerd, right? What would you consider as your 'dream job'? Rally Car driver. :) What are the most interesting aspects of your field? I am not sure how to answer this one, I don't really have a "field". So I think I will say that as a graphic artist, I really enjoy seeing my work out in public, So doing a design for someones car that puts it in a show, and then seeing it in a magazine or online, thats interesting. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? Doing work the way that a customer wants it, even though its wrong. Doing things the wrong way and knowing its wrong does not interest me at all. How can potential employers contact you? cslsr@ymail.com E-mail is the best option, as my phone is prepaid and generally used for emergencies only. |
