I work as a consultant Physician & ICU Specialist & the head of Internal Medicine & ICU departments in Coptic hospital. Nairobi, Kenya. I am running a very famous Internal Medicine clinic in Nairobi treating the biggest number of hypertensive, diabetic & other patients with chronic diseases. I am also experienced in managing HIV/AIDS & its complications. Also, I run the HDU/ICU treating their patients with respiratory distress & the ventilated patients. What fields have you worked in before? I was working as an assistant lecturer of Internal Medicine in Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University before coming to Kenya. What qualifications do you hold? M.B.B.Ch., M.Sc. (Master of Science) of Internal Medicine from Cairo University. Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? Both formal education & skills are very important in the field of Medicine as if you don't have good scientific base, you will not be able to get informative history from the patient or to reach a diagnosis & if you don't have good clinical skills, you will not be able to examine the patients & get the information needed for diagnosis. So, both are very important to make a good doctor. Describe the benefits of working with others Working with the others are very beneficial as it inspires you always with new experience coming from the second opinions & teaches you how to cooperate to reach your targets. Describe the benefits of working alone Working alone is not always harmful. Sometimes, it gives you enough experience especially in Medicine as it allows you to manage your cases with free hand but it doesn't help you in the sense of absence of second opinion & exchanging experiences. What was your worst working experience? My worst work experience is my work with a Professor who was always criticizing and not constructing but destructive. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? Continuous medical education through reading the medical books & new literatures together with attending the international conferences keep you always updated with what is new in Medicine. What unique skills do you have? I am experienced in managing the ICU & HIV/AIDS patients. I also work with the others in a good loving atmosphere respecting both junior & senior staffs. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? My dream job is to work as I am now in a respectable hospital. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? Meeting new signs which you can discover & treat on their basis especially in the era of the autoimmune diseases & HIV/AIDS. What are the least interesting aspects of your field?
