Air Traffic ControllerWhat type of job are you looking for? I´m looking for a job in the aviation industry. I have been working as an air traffic controller for 9 years, and as an on the job training instructor for 3 years at Helsinki-Vantaa airport in Finland. My current ratings are ADI/TWR/RAD, APS/RAD, OJTI. What nationality are you? Finnish What languages do you speak (and at what level)? Finnish and Swedish are my mothertongues, my spoken and written english is excellent and I also have basic skills in German. What country or area are you looking to work in and why? I am looking for an air traffic controlling job because I want new challenges, and now would be the right time to apply abroad. I have no children yet, and my experience in air traffic controlling is now at a level that would certainly be of use almost anywhere. I am ready to concider other positions in the aviation/airport industry aswell. What countries have you worked in? As an ATCO I have only worked in Finland, but as a travel representative I have worked on Cyprus and Tenerife. What countries do you have a visa to work in? All EU-countries. What field do you currently work in? I am at the moment an unemployed air traffic controller. The termination of my contract at EFHK ATC was due to my own resignation. What fields have you worked in before? Air traffic control, the tourism industry, radio DJ. What qualifications do you hold? I have been travelling alone and in groups, and I have also worked as a travel guide, so my knowledge about travelling is therefore quite wide. Due to an active lifestyle with travelling, sports and my confidential posts I have encountered a wide variety of cultures which has made me very analytical, adaptive, tolerant and open-minded. Problem- and conflict solving is also one of my assets. Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? Formal education with the development of skills are a very strong combination, and air traffic controlling without formal education would be almost impossible. In ATC it is strong basic training and experience that creates a good controller. Describe the benefits of working with others I have always been a team player, and working with others gives content to ones life by sharing experiences and constantly learning about other and yourself. Describe the benefits of working alone For some people working alone gives them a sense of calm, but in my case the job gets done regardless of working alone or in a group. What was your worst working experience? My worst workin experience was when I was workin on Tenerife. As a travel representative I was called in the middle of the night from a local hospital that one of our guests had been in a terrible accident. It was really hard and heartbreaking to cass this poor customers parents and tell them that their son had been seriously injured. He survived. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? Be yourself, never give up. What unique skills do you have? I am very adaptive to my environment and I have a unique skill to make people comfortable and happy around me. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? Air traffic controlling in a warmer climate than Finland. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? The constantly changing aspects of aviation. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? None. Why are you a good emloyee?
