I would love to work in Singapore. Singapore is one of the most amazing countries in the world with a fast growing economy and a high standard of living. It’s a melting pot of different cultures and traditions. The work environment is foreigner-friendly and ensures a high level of professionalism, service and strong work ethic. I am currently working with a Russian-owned international bank in New Delhi (India), where I am responsible for a customer relationship management and translation of legal and financial documents. My other duties also include opening and closing of client accounts, issuance of bank certificates, interpretation from English into Russian and vice versa for English- and Russian-speaking clients. What fields have you worked in before? In 1996-2008 I worked as a Technical Translator & Executive Secretary with another Russian company in New Delhi engaged in consultancy in the fertilizer industry. My responsibilities included document translation and interpretation, administrative and personal support to the management, coordination of the schedule, appointments and special events, making extensive travel reservations, communication with the company’s clients. What qualifications do you hold? Diploma with Honors in the English language Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? I think both are equally important: formal education is a foundation for future opportunities, and relevant skills acquired during practice are based on specific requirements of the employer. While education gives a good start, skills play an important role in developing a career, deciding the job prospects and earning promotions. Describe the benefits of working with others You can spread the workload and get more done in less time in a more supportive environment where each individual can contribute his/her expertise and where success or failure is shared. Ideas and methods are discussed and shared resulting in the most effective work style. Working in a team is great for development of presentation skills, accountability, responsibility, motivation, learning from other people’s experience. It also contributes to job satisfaction, motivation, face-to-face communication, building relationship and networking. Describe the benefits of working alone You can make your own decisions, express your creativity and personal working style, work to your own timescale, use your own methods, make decisions fast without any arguments and distractions, get a versatile experience, do the work to your specifications, there are no slackers adding to burden and finally all the credit goes to you. What was your worst working experience? I did not have any bad working experience. I believe one can learn something new and valuable from any job. One never knows when and where this or that experience may be useful. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? To always stay positive taking advantage of every opportunity, seeking different experiences, meeting new people, learning different perspectives, taking each piece of advice, striving to learn more about your field and never burning bridges. What unique skills do you have? I have a 14 years’ experience of working with foreign partners in a multicultural environment; excellent customer service, administrative and secretarial skills; proficiency in both Russian and English word processing. Documents translated by me are always accurate and reflect the style and manner of expression of native Russian-speaking people. I have a sound ability to translate documents following established rules pertaining to factors such as word meanings, sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, and mechanics. Residing in a foreign country for the last 14 years helped me in developing an ability to understand diverse accents and dialects, which is important at the time of interpretation. I am self-motivated, highly organized and detail-oriented with strong communication skills; able to prioritize and quickly grasp issues; dedicated, focused, resourceful and flexible, able to adapt to changing priorities and maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic; skilled in cultivating long-term, positive relationships with both clients and colleagues; comfortable working in a multicultural expatriate environment. I am willing to relocate, eager to travel and gain the cultural and educational insights. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? It’s a job where I would be able to utilize my professional competencies, capabilities, education and experience.
