Ivory Coast and Sierra Leone In Ivory Coast as Chief radio station of The United Nations security Integrated System UNDSS/ UNDPKO IN Sierra Leone as Supervisor of the Integrated Security Communication Center with The UN Security Section. What countries do you have a visa to work in? None I had had a one year visa with the UN to work in Sierra Leone. Information Technology with knowledge in security Description of Duties a. Under direct supervision of the Operations Supervisor, ensure that ISCC is mandated on 24/7 basis b. Maintain the radio and other communications equipment in ISCC in correct order and to oversee that they are used optimum so that there is no obstruction in emergency communications in UN system. c. Act as a focal point of maintaining smooth security-related information flow in UN system d. Maintain constructive relationship with internal and external stakeholders ensuring that the organization's interests are met and that ISCC in the Integrated Safety & Security Office is represented in a professional manner in the UN system e.Brief the Operations Supervisor on all operational matters who in turn keeps CSA and DSA informed on the operational matters and obtains further instructions to follow up f. Follow up on incidents and produce timely draft security briefing notes, weekly security advisories, weekly word orders and Security and Working Group inputs. The Operations Supervisor/DSA will fine tune the drafts for final review and circulation by CSA g. Maintain database of UN staff lists, digital maps, security related intranet and act as a custodian of the various security related regular information bulletins circulated in the UN system h. Produce power point presentations for the SMT and other security briefings i. Identify, assess and priorities work related issues and ensure that the unit can respond to all challenges. j. Forecast and plan unit's activities based on the section requirements k. Provide adequate guidelines to the unit staff on work related issues and exercise training when required l. Define work related tasks for the ISCC staff through the effective set of SOP's and verbal directions. M . MOSS and MORSS compliances Reference Code: RW_8A8JJ8-94 m. Reason for Leaving Given that UNIOSIL ( the peace-keeping Mission in Sierra Leone) has closed down in 30th September 2008 and the follow-on mission UNUPSIL is a much leaner outfit, the requirement for international positions is very limited. Consequently , I am one of those who are affected by the down-sizing . I left UNIOSIL after 8 months as ISCC or SOC Supervisor . What fields have you worked in before? in The Radio communications field. Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? I consider both of them , even if you are a good skilled worker a background education is essential. Through team work you can expect a better result as you share knowledge and some technical abilities you put all of them together this will surely provide good results and professionally each of you benefit from it. Describe the benefits of working alone To me there is no benefit working alone. What was your worst working experience? All bad experience have been for me a challenge that help me to improve and perform better to reach my goal.This is the reason I became Chief radio station and then internationally recruited by the UN mission in Sierra Leone as Supervisor.What some of my colleagues call bad experiences are for me the ingredients that help me get to be victorious in my different tasks. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? Hard work. What unique skills do you have? I have more than one . What would you consider as your 'dream job'?
