I am forty-six years old, a Kenyan citizen and a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Linguistics and African Languages, University of Nairobi. I am currently on my sabbatical leave. I received my PhD in Kiswahili Studies, from the University of Nairobi, in 1996; a certificate in German Language, Goethe Institute, Bonn, Germany (2002); a certificate in Korean Language, Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea (1988); a certificate in Introduction to Computer Windows 95/98, Institute of Nuclear Science, University of Nairobi (2000) and have basic knowledge of Arabic and Chinese.

I am a Kiswahili-English-Kiswahili and Kikamba-English-Kikamba translation consultant for the Forum for the African Women Educationists (seven years), League of Kenya Women Voters (four years), NAP Network of African People Living with HIV/AIDS (five years), Save the Children Fund (four years), Kenya Film Cooperation (two years), Kenya Red Cross Society (one year), ABB Kenya Ltd (four years), Acarya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (one year), Nestle (K) Ltd (four years), Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (one year), etc. So far, I have done twenty-one (21) major translations. I am also a Kiswahili Language Consultant, International Orientation Resources (IOR) Global Services, United Kingdom; the founder and chairman, Poverty Alleviation Development International and Kiwanja Community Care Centre (both are Community Based Organizations in Nairobi) and National Advisory Board member, Research Institute of Swahili Studies of Eastern Africa (RISS-EA), National Museums of Kenya.

I have been a Lecturer for eleven (11) years and a Senior Lecturer for nine (9) years. I am also a published poet, literary critic and essayist. I have, so far, published eight (8) books and twenty-five (25) articles and have written one hundred and thirty (130) manuscripts.

I have given forty-eight (48) presentations, thirty-two (32) international and sixteen (16 local) and participated in eleven (11) conferences (10 international and one local). Since my last promotion, I have given twenty-seven (27) international and three (3) local presentations and participated in five (5) conferences (4 international and 1 local). I have been interviewed locally and abroad fifteen (15) times.

I have received nineteen (19) scholarships and awards and three (3) honours. I am a member of nine (9) International Organizations, and have supervised, examined and passed three (3) PhD and twenty-four (24) M.A. theses and thirty-four (34) undergraduate projects.

Besides College of Education and External Studies and College of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Nairobi, I have been a lecturer and guest scholar at the following Universities: Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Seoul, Korea; Kenyatta University, Kenya; Universite Nationale du Rwanda, Rwanda; University of London (School of Oriental and African Studies, UK), Universität zu Leipzig, Universität zu Koln and Universität zu Bayreuth (Germany), Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain), Soka University (Japan) and at Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO), Département Afrique, Centre Riquet, Paris.

I have held the following responsibilities: Chairman, Kiswahili Department (two years), Ag. Chairman, Department of Linguistics and African Languages (a number of occasions), University warden (nine years), University of Nairobi; Kiswahili External Examiner, University of Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania (two years); Kenya Kiswahili Curriculum Developer, Kenya Institute of Education (six years); Kiswahilli Syllabus Developer for the income generating project, Department of Linguistics and African Languages (University of Nairobi), Examiner, Setter and Moderator of Kiswahili papers, Kenya National Examination Council (six years); Internal Moderator, Department of Linguistics and African Languages, University of Nairobi (one year); Postgraduate Studies and Seminars coordinator, Department of Linguistics and Languages, University of Nairobi (one year), coordinator, Washington University St.Louis, Summer Programme June-August 2000; initiator, The Academic Exchange Programme between Université Nationale du Rwanda and the University of Nairobi, March 1992 and Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO) and University of Nairobi, June 16th, 2005; script writer and Presenter, Kameme FM, Iqra FM; manuscript editor, reviewer and proof-reader, Kenya Literature Bureau (3 years), Jomo Kenyatta Foundation (2 years) and Evan's Brothers (3 years); adjudicator , Murang'a District Music and Elocution Festivals (Kiswahili Verses), May, 25th, 2000 and have been cited in Marquis Who is Who in the World (1996 edition).

I have also been a contributor the following newspapers: “Thought of the Times” Column, The Korea Times – 1986-1991; Baraza, Chemsha Bongo, Taifa Leo and Taifa Weekly (1975 – 1992) and the Daily Nation; Services Staff, The Twenty - Fourth Olympiad, Seoul (Sept. - Oct, 1988), Founder and Chairman, CHAKINA (Swahili Association of the University of Nairobi) University of Nairobi (1980 – 1985); adjudicator, “Sanaa ya Kiswahili”, Voice of Kenya T.V. Programme (occasionally); participant, “Writers' Forum”, Voice of Kenya Radio Programme “Ukumbi wa Kiswahili”, Voice of Kenya Radio, Programme (regular) “Lugha Yetu”, Voice of Kenya Radio Programme “Mjadala”, Voice of Kenya Radio, Programme and editorial Associate, Initiatives Limited, January 26th, 1994 – December 26th, 1994 Nairobi.

I am looking for a teaching/visiting position in any tertiary institution. I would also like to work with an NGO or any of the International Organizations in Tanzania.
