Fruit picking this summer 2011What type of job are you looking for? Full time work on a farm over a 2 month period. Last year I worked in France picking grapes. It was very rewarding but i would prefer to travel to Spain this year, where I can speak more of the language. What nationality are you? British What languages do you speak (and at what level)? Spanish- high intermediate. English What country or area are you looking to work in and why? Spain, to practice my Spanish and enjoy the Spanish culture. What countries have you worked in? I am an MA student at the University of Liverpool, finishing in June 2011 What fields have you worked in before? Restaurant/catering Bar work Fruit picking Teaching What qualifications do you hold? BA in English Language and Applied Linguistics Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? A balance between the two is vital to a job that fullfill's one's potential, whilst opening more opportunities of personal development. I believe that my degree expresses my desire to achieve in academic fields, however I feel that a farm job, where skill is more important than qualification, will help me to learn new practical skills and allow me to experience a world vastly different to University life. Describe the benefits of working with others Teamwork, help and support, boosts staff morale. Describe the benefits of working alone Working independently usually amounts to better efficiency in getting the work done What was your worst working experience? In a cafe in England, where there were too many staff, and not enough work to do. I felt like I wasn't needed or valued. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? To be tolerant of others within the working environment, and to enjoy what you do! What unique skills do you have? Ability to teach English to non-native speakers, whilst not speaking their language. Ability to engage others and emply motivation and enthusiasm to any task What would you consider as your 'dream job'? Working and travelling abroad- presently work on farms, and in the future, teaching English. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? The reward of helping students to learn English and view day to day success and achievement. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? Having to plan lessons to a target criteria, where the individual students are not taken into consideration. What would make you a good farm worker?
