Mature British native couple seek work as live in Housekeeper and HandymanWhat type of job are you looking for? live in couple as Housekeeper/Cook/Carer and Handyman/Property Maintenance/Gardener/Driver What nationality are you? My husband is Welsh, I am English. We met in Spain and got married 9 months in Scotland! What languages do you speak (and at what level)? both speak english obviously and I speak and write spanish almost fluently and my husband speaks a little and understands a lot. We also know basic French and a little German and a few phrases in Welsh What country or area are you looking to work in and why? Having lived, in Spain and loved it for over 9 years we are happy to work there, or Gibraltar or UK, but being adventurous we would be willing to go anywhere. What countries have you worked in? UK and Spain What countries do you have a visa to work in? UK, and Europe no problem, havent worked anywhere else. What field do you currently work in? I am a live in carer working for vulnerable adults in UK in their home for 2 to 4 weeks at a time, invololving housekeeping, cooking, shopping and personal care. My husband is a self employed mechanic and also doing painting houses, pool maintenance, tiling, plumbing etc What fields have you worked in before? I worked in a bank for 8 years when I left school, and before coming to Spain I worked in a school, as a Special Needs Teacher and Learning Support Assistant for several years. Since being in Spain I have picked strawberries, worked for 10 months in a 10 roomed Hotel, mainly in the kitchen wlith just the owner and myself but I also cleaned, waited tables and did laundry and ironing and cleaned lets for holiday homes. I also taught spanish and . My husband has worked as motor mechanic for over 30 years owninjg his own garage with a staff of 5+ What qualifications do you hold? I have 7 O levels and a few courses relevant to schools and an emergency first aid certificate! My husband left scholl to start as a mechanic Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? As you can see from above we have limited qualifications on paper however we have both gained considerable experience in a number of jobs due to hands on experience and learning the hard way and developing and honing skills over time. I feel qualifications are only a minor indication to what you can do and what your potential is Describe the benefits of working with others you can bounce ideas off others, share problems, see things from another point of view, it also provides companionship Describe the benefits of working alone One can concentrate on things better without distractions, time to think about what you are doing What was your worst working experience? I dont have a worst but I have a 'hardest'. Picking strawberries in a field for over 8 hours a day in 38 degree+ heat for 'peanut'. I was the only 'foreigner' out of 40+ spanish and then I didnt speak much Spanish and they spoke no english. But it left an indelible impression on me. It taught me about stamina, working hard without complaint, working in a team, caring for others and tolerating the hot sun and learning a new language in at the deep end. I will never forget it or the people I met. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? You can do anything if you set your mind to eat and dont let anything get you angry, be calm it always gets better results. What unique skills do you have? I have people skills, I have a lot of patience for people less capable than myself. I'm very happy being me, Im good at languages and I pick up new skills quickly, always willing to learn What would you consider as your 'dream job'? working with my husband and having responsibility in caring for someone elses property. i am very conscientious and feel immense pride in my work, especially if its appreciated, although that's not essential as I have my own high standards. My husband's dream job would be to work with me too! We're still newly ,weds' you know!! What are the most interesting aspects of your field? Travelling to new places and meeting new people and adapting to different people's ideals What are the least interesting aspects of your field? Sometimes the routine is so exactly the same as the day before and the day before that, that it can be boring but there arent really any uninteresting bits When can you start work?
