What type of job are you looking for?

Media and communications works, including editing, reporting, writing, film and television programme production, directing and presenting.

What nationality are you?

Gambian

What languages do you speak (and at what level)?

Writes, reads, understands and speaks English fluently, as the official language of my country. Have basic understanding of French.

What country or area are you looking to work in and why?

Southern Sudan

What countries have you worked in?

Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Senegal and guinea

What countries do you have a visa to work in?

Gambia and the countries mentioned above, amongst others.

What field do you currently work in?

Journalism, broadcasting and general media and communications works.

What fields have you worked in before?

Media, both print and electronic.

What qualifications do you hold?

I hold a Master's Degree in International Journalism from Cardiff University, UK.

Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?

Journalism is a highly practical profession and therefore requires skills but without the requisite formal education, it will be difficult muster any valuable and functional skills. The answer to the above question, from the perspective of my profession, is that both are important but formal education is crucial for the acquisition of any skills.

Describe the benefits of working with others

Team work is not only essential, but crucial for success in any corporate, community or group undertaking. It does not only share roles and responsibilities but more importabntly galvanizes and energises the workforce.

Describe the benefits of working alone

Working alone is benefitial in certain ciurcumstances, especially where the job requires greater concentration and attention.

What was your worst working experience?

I have been working as journalist and broadcaster for the last 19 years, rising through the ranks to the position of Director of Television Programmes at the national broadcaster, Gambia Radio and Television Services.

What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?

The huge amount of trust that my people repose in me as journalist and therefore a credible source of news and information for them.

What unique skills do you have?

Managerial and administrative skills, Television programme production, directing and presenting, editing, repoting, writing, camera operation and video and audio editing.

What would you consider as your 'dream job'?

Any jobs in the senior category in the fields of journalism, broadcasting, communication and public relations.

What are the most interesting aspects of your field?

The ability to reach out to so many people over diverse areas, knowing the power of information as an important agent of positive chgange.

What are the least interesting aspects of your field?

It is not financially rewarding yet stressful andf time demanding.
