Editorial Supervisor to $90,000 USD - Darfur Arabic Radio U.S. POSITION Editorial Shift Supervisor - RADIO DARFUR U.S. Based Middle East Global Radio and TV News Network LOCATION Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia area - USA for Global Darfur Radio COMPENSATION $65, 000 to $90, 000 with exceptional benefits and relocation for you anf your family - WILL RELOCATE TO THE UNITED STATES PRIMARY FUNCTION Lead the development of accurate, objective news and information for a radio program providing news about Darfur and the world that is not otherwise accessible through the official media. The program features interviews with: American officials, human rights experts, Sudanese professionals, activists, government officials, and citizens, as well as NGO representatives. The program further provides information on refugee and internally displaced person (IDP) issues, health issues and features about the culture, history and heritage of the diverse ethnic groups of Darfur. DUTIES Lead a team producing daily radio programming targeted to the people of Darfur. Exercise sound editorial judgment in all matters affecting news and programs ensuring that programming complies with the Network's journalistic code of ethics. Identify leading stories for the day and coordinate coverage of these stories with correspondents and team members. Draft and edit Arabic-language news scripts, checking copy for accuracy, suitability for broadcast, style, and correct grammar. Integrate the use of sound effects and audio cuts that are most pertinent and interesting to enhance the quality and appeal of the final production. Make assignments. Edit correspondents' reports. Participate in live newscasts, pre-recorded segments, and in-studio coverage of special events. Identify strengths and weaknesses of team members, helping each of them develop broadcast and journalistic skills to improve the quality of performance and better serve the broadcasts. REQUIRED Bachelors degree in journalism or broadcast journalism Proficient English and excellent Arabic writing skills Must be intimately familiar with the Darfur to include having knowledge of the culture, politics, economic and social conditions Strong news judgment and organizational skills Demonstrated managerial skills, good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment is necessary Good creative and editorial judgment Proficient with Internet, database and computer assisted reporting techniques Accommodate flexible hours including nights, weekends, holidays and irregular hours at a moments notice THE ARABIC NEWSROOM |
