Multi-Lingual American-Taiwanese Seeking Job in Hospitality

What type of job are you looking for?

Positions within hospitality, customer service, sales, or tourism (within criteria of Taiwan culture and history).

What nationality are you?

American-Taiwanese.

What languages do you speak (and at what level)?

English: Fluent Mandarin: Conversational Taiwanese: Conversational Spanish: Some-Conversational German: Beginner

What country or area are you looking to work in and why?

Taipei, Taiwan because it is of my current residence.

What countries have you worked in?

United States; Hong Kong, China; and Taiwan.

What countries do you have a visa to work in?

Not necessary for United States or Taiwan.

What field do you currently work in?

Language: tutoring English to College students and retirees (basic level to conversational English).

What fields have you worked in before?

Sales, Customer Service, Exhibition, Information Technology, Runway Fashion, and Restaurants.

What qualifications do you hold?

Language capability, organizational skills, multi-tasking, typing speed of 108/wpm, knowledge on culture and history of Taiwan.

Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why?

What I consider most valuable is one's worth ethics and capability to get things done and done well.

My formal education includes International Public Relations, Fashion Design, Interior Design, and Psychology.

My skills include: proficiency in typing, very well organized, experience in shiatsu (Japanese acupressure massage), experience in hand-sowing, experience in salon-beauty, and customer service (hospitality).

Describe the benefits of working with others

In working as a team or group, one benefits from being open-minded to diverse inputs that one alone may not have applied alone; a team is the foundation of which without, is an irresolute win.

Describe the benefits of working alone

Working individually opens an opportunity to expand with one's creativity and potential.

What was your worst working experience?

My personal worst past work experience has been in the summer of 2001 when I worked in retail sales, before moving forward into the Service industry; the position was unfortunately not challenging enough with no room for advancement in promotion.

What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career?

The most important lesson I've learned from my overall work experience would be to never give up for any reason. The key word is determination: it is only half the task, allows us to sustain and persevere.

What unique skills do you have?

I am able to step myself aside and think as a third person to be able to think and understand from all sides of a story, to be able to understand the customer or client best. My other attributes are communication skills (I am a good listener, patient and open-minded); strong desire for research (I am naturally curious and keen to detail so I am always ready to take on information and get the answers); flexible (from my travel experiences and exposure to international cultures and traditions, I learned to be open-minded and adaptable to various situations that may arise); and managing (to manage is to be inspiring and knowing how to negotiate, a team stands with a unified belief, cause and mutual understanding).

What would you consider as your 'dream job'?

Since I was 7 years old, I fell in-love with Taiwan and wanted to be as much part of it as it is of me. Since I was 10 years old, I have studied in the United States, exploring what my surroundings (Florida) had to offer, and taking part of the dream America wants for us. Today, I am 27 years old and I want to take advantage of the current U.S.-Taiwan relations to guide (tourism) abroad to the countries I have learned so much to love.

What are the most interesting aspects of your field?

In the Service field, the best and most interesting aspect or benefit was of being able to occasionally encounter and resolve an array of situations.

In the Exhibition field, adjusting to the often demanding environment, and satisfying client's specific requests to ensure the safest and best result with their priority in mind.

In the Information Technology, being placed in a foreign field and determining myself to accomplish all given tasks.

In the Runway Fashion, learning to think 'outside the box' and tackling on the fear of public speech.

In Restaurants did I first obtain my work ethics: be determined, be flexible, and always surpass expectations.

What are the least interesting aspects of your field?

In sum of the overall fields, there was not one aspect to satisfyingly answer the question. I have worked in demanding environments, in unfamiliar fields, conquered my fear of public speaking to perform my job, think from all different views, and at times negotiate with the clients to obtain what is best for the company with both interests in mind; therefore, there is nothing I can say from my past work experiences that is not {or least} interesting. They are lessons that I have learned from, those that I take with me, and morals that I abide by.

How would you be as an essential employee?

As mentioned before, my work ethic is to always surpass expectations, whether it is given, or personal. A job is an endless opportunity to branch-out into creativity, allowing one to reveal their greatest potentials. Determination is that of a task, already halfway (50%) done, and 100% mental work. In sum, it takes 150% to surpass personal expectations as an essential employee.

How can potential employers contact you?

My preferred way of contact is through e-mail. Please contact me through: lanhua886@gmail.com
