Oil and Gas ( HSE Supervisor ) What fields have you worked in before? Facility Management, Construction, Oil and Gas What qualifications do you hold? Nebosh Certificate (Credit) University Of the West Indies- ( 2 year certificate with a distinction) World Safety Organization- (Certified Safety Technician) Canadian Center for Occupational Health (CCOHS)-Certificate in Health and Safety training for Managers and Supervisors. RGIT Montrose Trinidad Ltd- Oil Spill Response Just to name a few Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? I beleive that both are important but skills are what makes you good at what you do. For instance, I do not yet possess a degree but I have held Managerial and supervisory level positions and did an excellent job. Describe the benefits of working with others The main benefits of working with others is gaining new knowledge and information, learning how to deal with different personalities and together everyone acheives more. Describe the benefits of working alone Benefits of working alone are, working alone gives you more autonomy and power to make decisions, it makes you more independent and it allows you to use your judgment without facing criticism. You can schedule your work timetable and follow your plan. What was your worst working experience? My worst working experience was dealing with a manager who had a Autocratic / Authoritarian management style. Was never willing to discuss or consult, was very abusive and had no interpersonal skills. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? The most important lesson that I have learnt throughout my career is that no person should ever be judged until you give them a chance, give them the right tools and education and empower them to make the right decisions. What unique skills do you have? My unique skills are; my ability to get along well with others, no matter what position they hold. My ability to complete assignments and tasks before deadlines and my supervisory / managerial ability. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? My dream job is working for a company where HSE is really treated as a value and not a priority, where I am given the resources to sucessfully improve HSE culture, where I am treated with respect and where I am compensated for my efforts. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? The most interesting aspects of my field are; fulfilling the mission of an HSE professional, which is to prevent work-related deaths, injuries and cases of ill health. Witnessing 360 degree changes in attitudes with regards to HSE. The heath, safety and well being of many people depend on your ability to effectively and efficiently execute your responsibilities as an HSE proffesional. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? I cannot think of anything that is not of significant interest in the feild of HSE. This profession is so important and nothing can be taken for granted. Would you ever consider changing your profession? No I will not consider changing my career path. The importance and sense of satisfaction achieved by helping people to reach home to their loved ones, safe and secure, everyday cannot be compensated by any other means.
