I am currently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Community and family Medicine, Najran University, Saudi Arabia What fields have you worked in before? I am a medical doctor with Postgraduate qualifications in Community Medicine and Public Health. I have worked for the last ten years in different private medical colleges of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia as a faculty member. What qualifications do you hold? Working on different public health and research projects during my education and jobs help me to teach students and manage projects in a more effective manner Describe the benefits of working with others In Public health you must work with other stake holders like goverment agencies, NGOs, community members and your own team members. It gives you a more dynamic and holistic picture of any given problem and ways and means to solve it. You can learn a lot through the experience of others. Describe the benefits of working alone Some times due to time constrains or nature of work you have to work individually but it is always better to have some input and consultation with the important stakeholders. If you are working alone you have the freedom to design, implement and excecute and evalute your project. What was your worst working experience? Working as faculty member in a Saudi University, due to language barrier I could not communicate and teach effectively to my students. Most of students could not understand English and follow my lectures. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? Persistence and hard work always pays What unique skills do you have? Research skills in both Quantitative and Qualitative domain with knowledge of computer packages such as SPSS, Epi-Info, Excel etc What would you consider as your 'dream job'? Chair of a well reputed Community Medicine Deparment which has a strong research base programme What are the most interesting aspects of your field? My job is not only teaching medical and allied health sciences students but to evaluate and improve the living and health conditions of the communities where ever I work. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? Public health and preventive programmes like assessment of malnutrition, vaccination of children,anti smoking and drug abuse campaigns are not given as much priority as curative care in most of the countries. Why public health is important for both developed and developing countries? I think due to rapid increase in population, growing disparities of wealth and resources and changing spectrum of diseases i.e. from infections to chronic diseases, accidents and injuries, public heath preventive and promotive programmes are required for all the countries to face the challenges of tomorrow.
