job referenceWhat type of job are you looking for? Finance, Insurance or Banking What nationality are you? Ugandan What languages do you speak (and at what level)? English- Understood and eloquently spoken Lutooro- Understood and well spoken Luganda- Understood but not very well spoken What country or area are you looking to work in and why? Kampala Because I am more familiar with the infrastructure, working conditions and services offered in Kampala than anywhere else. What countries have you worked in? None except Uganda. What field do you currently work in? Insurance What fields have you worked in before? - Investment banking - record keeping - Publishing What qualifications do you hold? Bachelor of science degree in Actuarial Science Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? Skills Formal education is important but i think any employer would prefer hiring a skilled employee as it reduces costs on training plus that employee adds alot more value to the company hiring him/her than one who is just qualified but not skilled Describe the benefits of working with others It builds a sense of team work and improves skills of individuals as they learn new ideas and methods of tackling problems from each other while working together. Plus, the value of the work is richer and better than that done by one single individual as it wil have the dedication and opinions of the whole team. Describe the benefits of working alone It improves one's ability not to rely on other people by making individuals better at what they do since they are under pressure to deliver and not count on other people to contribute greatly to their work . Since one individual is more specialised than those who work in a team, his/her skills improve greatly. What was your worst working experience? While at New vision Uganda, during publishing, we would sort out so many papers and carry out error rectification on already published scripts that had errors during printing and we would do this all day, unfortunately, even though we were constantly busy, our working days were limited as a different work force would be picked ever so often so sometimes you found you wasted your little transport travelling to work only to get there and find your name not on the rosta for people required that day. This would constantly happen yet it would have been easier to inform us the day before whether we may or may not be needed. This gradually led to me quitting the job as the little money we were earning was being quickly spent as it was being made on basically upkeep for one's daily activities. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? Never look down on anyone, especially those below your pay grade, you never know who they know or when you might need them urgently in your life. What unique skills do you have? computer literate(MS office package) Posses over 5years driving experience What would you consider as your 'dream job'? Haven't had that much experience anywhere but I think I would love a job in insurance What are the most interesting aspects of your field? The need for your skills when insuring anyone against any risk What are the least interesting aspects of your field? The fact that insurance is known by the few educated ones and these count the least of the population hence leaving the sector inadequately tapped Should employers provide job security for their employees? Yes they should. Especially the really hard working batch. This includes the working conditions. i think employers should look into rewarding employees(especially the hard working ones) depending on their work. This improves job satisfaction and even though it is not possible to satisfy every employee, atleast those who are looked after don't have to seek for better alternatives.
