teaching englsihWhat type of job are you looking for? I have an extensisve background in real estate, title research, and customer service, marketing and sales. I would also be interested in teaching English in a rural area of Mexico. What nationality are you? North American. USA. What languages do you speak (and at what level)? English; Fluent Spanish; Intermediate What country or area are you looking to work in and why? I am seeking employment in Mexico, Central America or South America. I would love to accomplish my two main goals. 1) To work and live in these areas and improve my Spanish, firstly, for advancement on a professional level and secondly, on a personal level. 2) To work and live in these areas and improve and help other people with English, also for professional and personal reasons. 3) I love these parts of the world. I think what I love most are the people. I have traveled to these areas before and I would love nothing more than to work, live and die there. America is a wonderful country, but over the last 10 years or so, I have become so dis-enchanted with it's people, it's ideas, it's values and it's overall bad taste it leaves in my mouth. What countries have you worked in? In my travels, I have worked little odd jobs, while traveling. Sometimes for a little money, mostly for nothing. Mexico, Guatamala, Costa Rica and Panama. I lived in Japan for a while, I like it there too, but, not my choice to live and work. What countries do you have a visa to work in? None, I would have to do this on my own, or, best case scenario, be sponsored by my employer. What field do you currently work in? Real Estate, commercial, residential, oil and gas, customer service, education, training. What fields have you worked in before? I have worked with the US Military, restaurants, language software sales, research, house keeping, a lot of different things. What qualifications do you hold? I have been issued a marketing and title license through the state of Utah. I am pursuing a certificate in teaching English as a second language or foreign language and should have my degree in Spanish in the summer of 2011. Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? I do think that formal education can work for some, for others, (this would include me) skills are the most valuable. I retain so much more through a 'hands-on' learning and it gives me a sense of 'can do' and the feeling that I am doing it while I am learning. It makes it so much more easy for me to learn and then to teach it. Describe the benefits of working with others The benefits of working with others is beyond words. The feeling you get when you see others have that 'oh!, I get it' moment. The experiences that are shared among others really gives a sense of how this other person learns and a background that allows (at least for me) an insight of how this person learns and what is important to them. Describe the benefits of working alone Working alone is wonderful in the sense that you can really wrap yourself into a project. No one but you and the craft. For myself, It really gives me a chance to think about different ways to approach a project and see if I can make it work, without having to express into words what I am doing or trying to do. What was your worst working experience? I think my worst experience was when I was a young man, I worked for a Japanese farmer. I worked for him as my first job. After 4 years of working on his farm, I learned he had died and his brother had taken over. His brother knew nothing about how to manage workers, especially young boys who were so impressionable. It was really a bad experience. I never went back after that. It gave me the knowledge of this; I now know what kind of boss I don't want to be or have...ever. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? Honesty and customer care. Knowing that hard work does pay off. Respect for your career, for your clients and your co-workers. Humility that there is always someone smarter than you and never be afraid to ask questions. Confidence, confidence to trust in yourself and the knowledge that you will have to live with your decisions and the confidence to know that it's ok to make mistakes, just learn by them. What unique skills do you have? I love to learn. I love to talk. I can talk to complete strangers about anything. I think my ability to have so many interests and that I am not shy gives my a talent to talk to people, to listen to people and I believe in today's environment...this is a unique skill. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? My dream job is doing what I love. I have so many loves. I guess that I am saying, just do what I love and the money will follow. I love research, history, reading, writing, I actually like selling. If I truely believe in something and it's value, I can sell it. Just a part of my gift of gab. I would consider that living in an area that has a moderate climate, surrounded by wonderful, gracious, humble people. Near an ocean, maybe a photographer, a writer, who knows. It's like asking me what is my favourite song. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? The research is most interesting to me. I love to research about history. In my field, it is the history of real estate. I love geneology, the research of people. It truly is something that I can get lost in for hours. What are the least interesting aspects of your field? I suppose the least interesting aspect is after the research. Then it seems that it becomes mundane. Once all the pieces have been put together, it's put slot a into slot b and so forth. I would rather just hand the project off after I've done the research. Why am I exploring all these new questions at this time of my life? Well, I suppose that answer would take forever. I have had a good life. I have had a good career. I suppose, something inside of me is telling me it's time to broaden my horizons. That there is something else for me. Things left undone. I don't want to go to the grave having regrets. How can potential employers contact you? The best way is to email me. pcgroove@gmail.com |
