teaching ESL/EFL What type of job are you looking for? I am looking for a NGO job related to teaching English as a Second Language/English as a Foreign language. What nationality are you? I am a Filipino presently residing in the Philippines What languages do you speak (and at what level)? I speak English and the level of my English is the professional level What country or area are you looking to work in and why? In Vietnam --- Ho Chi Minh city What countries have you worked in? I have not worked outside the Philippines but I have extensive work experience in teaching ESL/EFL when I worked for almost 7 years with the United States Refugee Program. What field do you currently work in? I am presently teaching ESL/EFL to Koreans and I am an on-line English Skill Proficiency Test evaluator. What fields have you worked in before? ESL/EFL to young adults and adults and I have worked for many years with formal academic institutions. I have also studied and documented on several indigenous people of the Philippines What qualifications do you hold? I have a certification to teach and train ESL/EFL from the United States Refugee Program. I am also a graduate of Masters of Business Administration. My college degree is Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? Formal education and skills are both necessary. Formal education enhances the skills of the person. Skills are also the requirement to attain all the goals of the person Describe the benefits of working with others Working with others have helped me realize that people are unique and easy to get along with. That is if people can accept and understand the difference and similarities of people. Having worked with a multi-cultural environment taught me to appreciate the uniqueness and beauty of cultures of people Describe the benefits of working alone Well, some projects require working alone and when it happens the tasks could be processed and finished faster if one works by himself. What was your worst working experience? When all the materials I prepared the night before where ruined by pitcher of juice. So what I did was to re-do the materials in the class during the actual class. When I did this, the learning process was easier for my students because they participated in the actual drawing of the materials What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? That no matter who are our students --- everyone is hungry to learn something new each day. This feeling is what makes teaching fun. What unique skills do you have? I could adapt to a multi-cultural, multi-sectoral institution or community. I do understand the uniqueness of people as well as their idiosyncrasies which makes teaching a worthwhile and gratifying profession. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? Working with people who have "few or limited" language capacity and slowly identifying and seeing the changes taking place. What are the most interesting aspects of your field? Teaching different age groups, level groups, and having students come from different backgrounds What are the least interesting aspects of your field? Seeing a child feel frustrated because he is experiencing difficulty in learning something new Why am I an asset to your institution? I believe I have the experience and eagerness to teach people and the desire to impart the knowledge I have acquire all these years. I am also educationally equipt to be accepted in this job.
