I would like a job in the US Virgin Islands as the states (particularly the state I live in) are no longer conducive to the education and well being of myself and my children What field do you currently work in? I have over 10 years experience in the telecom field and am currently employed as a NOC technician for a facilities /off site LD provider What fields have you worked in before? Formal education or skills and why? I consider a person's skills more important than "book learned" skills for the simple reason that books are a great dropping off point if you will however in the field of technology you must have the ability to improvise at times and most books just can not teach that particular skill. Also a person's formal education does not necessarily mean that the person can preform the required duties. Describe the benefits of working with others I enjoy working with other members of a team to creatively yet promptly solve the day to day issues that can occur with telecom customers equipment be it company facilities or customer prem equipment Describe the benefits of working alone I enjoy being the only one "on the floor" most of the time as it allows for me to work without interruptions. What was your worst working experience? Being micro-managed by a group of individuals with no working knowledge of the field that could not/did not understand the mechanics of the equipment and how it functioned in relation to the customer's needs. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? Always listen to what the team has to input but be prepared to back up a difference of opinion if you know that it is an impossibility of the equipment capabilities based on facts even if you have to demonstrate it to the team. What unique skills do you have? I can usually listen to what someone is saying and be able to determine what they really mean by asking a few simple questions - I can interact with an irate customer and usually defuse the situation and bring it to a calm conclusion with the issue being resolved and the customer being made to feel like they had been listened to and spoken with; not "at" What would you consider as your 'dream job'? A job that gives me the freedom to improvise when needed but can provide guidance and assistance of a "think tank" when needed What are the most interesting aspects of your field? The interactions with the customer's, the team and the changing technology. I love solving the day to day problems that occur and see them as a personal challenge What are the least interesting aspects of your field? Some of the more mundane tasks such as the daily reporting that goes along with the monitoring however it is critical so it must be done What can I bring to the table I can work with the customer's, outside vendors, inside teams and whomever else needs to be contacted to resolve issues with service or outages. I am usually the first one in and the last one out over the day and I will do whatever it takes to make sure the issues are resolved preferably before I end the call with the customer.
