| YouTube: Enter a descriptive keyword-loaded title here! www.employmentcrossing.com West Virginia is expected to lose 4800 jobs next year as the national fiscal crisis pushes the Mountain State toward a recession, according to an economic forecast. But the state's job losses, in percentage terms, are not expected to be as large as those anticipated for the nation, said George Hammond of West Virginia University. Hammond says that the states robust performance in natural resources and mining will buffer the state from the worst of the economic downturn. He expects job growth in the state to rebound in 2010, and to continue growing through 2013. But the states construction sector has lost 7300 jobs from 2003 to 2008, with a loss of 1800 jobs in the last year alone. Those job losses were concentrated in wood products, transportation equipment, plastic products and chemicals. Hammond said the strongest job growth in the past year came in health care; leisure and hospitality; professional and business services; and government. |
