IT jobWhat type of job are you looking for? I am looking for an IT job that will allow me to use my user support and teaching skills to better the organisation. As well as help ICT growth and appreciation in Zambia What nationality are you? Zambian What languages do you speak (and at what level)? English, bemba and tonga at a management level. I also speak nyanja at a basic level. What country or area are you looking to work in and why? Zambia. I have accomodation in Lusaka and Kitwe, but am willing to work anywhere within Zambia. Reason is because I want to plough back (using what I have learnt) into my country. I would like to be part of the those individuals that bring benefits to Zambia through ICT. What countries have you worked in? Zambia What field do you currently work in? IT as a lecturer and systems administrator. What fields have you worked in before? Systems administrator(as an intern) and systems administrator and lecturer with the UNZA adult education ridgeway campus. What qualifications do you hold? BSc in Computing from the University of Greenwich, IMIS Higher Diploma and Diploma from the CBU IMIS centre and certificate in Internetworking from ZCAS Which do you consider more valuable? Formal education or skills and why? Skills. Reason is that formal knowledge has to be applied practically for it to make a contribution. and formal knowledge has to bear out the inherent and learnt skills of the individual. Describe the benefits of working with others You get an opportunity to learn from others. A chance to impart knowledge and opportunity to measure the validity of what you know against what your peers have and know. It gives one a chance to interact with like minds and be part of an achievement(what the group is undertaking). Describe the benefits of working alone Ability to reach your full potential. Test your boundaries and know your strenghts and weaknesses. Chance to improve and enhance your skills. To basically know oneself. What was your worst working experience? Was working on a certain project with my Colleagues which we had gone through 3/4 way only to find one morning that all the data was lost due to a system crash.To make matters worse, even our backup got currupted aswell on the same fateful morning due to lighting which ended up crashing our server which had the backup. What is the most important lesson you have learnt throughout your career? Knowledge is never ending. You are always learning. What unique skills do you have? Ability to communicate what I know to users using different ways and methods. Ability to research what I dont know and apply it to the task at hand. What would you consider as your 'dream job'? IT manager What are the most interesting aspects of your field? PC hardware and maintenance. Teaching ICT skills. Project management. Programming. How should ICT be promoted? We have to start from the grassroots. Lets introduce computer lessons at primary levels and making sure that even the under privileged have access to such facilities because you never know maybe that’s where we can find the 'bill gates' of tomorrow. Up the hierarchy people should be encouraged to be innovative and able to use ICT effective to mitigate or come up with solutions to tackle problems experienced on the ground. People should be supported say financially to come up with complex system to streamline business processes which would in turn bring about improved productivity, profits, workmanship, and customer services etc Should proffessional courses encouraged? They should be encouraged to cope up with recent technologies from developing countries. For instance, IMIS and the BSc (Hon) programmes course outlines have been very helpful in restructuring the Computer science degree syllabus at CBU which had never been revised since 10 years ago.
