For a new graduate, the first job may be the most difficult job to find, especially these days when the labor market is filled with many deserving people who have years of experience under their belt. But do not let this hinder your quest (assuming you are a new graduate yourself). You can always try to make a resume that will stand out and land you that first job.
The most difficul aspect of writing a resume for a fresh graduate is the absence of professional experience that you can write on the resume. So what you will have to focus on are the skills that you have acquired when you were still in college.
First, you have to prepare an impressive job description. This should vary from position to position that you are applying for. State specifically why you want to have that particular post and for that particular company. Summarize in a few words why you deserve the post.
Since you still do not have the professional experience, your educational background should be the next priority. Where you got your college degree and the kind of awards that you received during college are indicative of your capabilities at work. That may not be an assurance to the potential employer, but that's the best indicator that one can get. Once you move on form job to job and acquire experience, the educational background will eventually recede in priority in favor of experience.
Pre-professional experience should be also listed. This includes the summer jobs and internships that you had (make sure to be specific!), as well as research projects, student organizations that you were a member of, and volunteer work. Highlight those tasks that may be mostly associated with the post that you are applying for.
Resume writing for a fresh graduate may seem daunting, but do not think like that. If you follow these tips, I am sure that you can find something to write that will get the employers' attention.
