A plan has been proposed to set up Casino's in Ohio's four largest cities, but many believe that this would hurt existing business and lead to job losses in the region.
A public policy research group was put together at Hiram College to study the possible effects of the plan and Thomas Pascarella, professor of economics and management, called a "zero-sum gain". He claimed that no growth would come from it, just a changing hands of cash from one person to another - not something that creates benefits for the state and its people.
The question will be put to the people of Ohio themselves on November 4th when they will be asked to vote whether or not they would like to see four locations built in Cinncinati, Cleveland, Colombus and Toledo. Disagreements continue as some argue in favor of the jobs that will be created and revenue earned from taxes. However other claim that the benefits are being exaggerated and that the social costs of these businesses are not being taken in to account.
