myCV.net - Free online CV creator Interview

By Interviewer at 11/11/07 15:00

Name of your website?

myCV.net - Free online CV creator

Your name?

Chris Denman

Your Location (city, etc)

Luton

Please give us a short summary of your website?

With mycv.net you can create and store your CV online. Instead of sending recruitment agencies documents to deal with, simply send them your very own myCV.net address like yourname.mycv.net - it's as simple as that!

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I noticed that there wasn't any good CV creator websites out there. None of them output to XML either.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

In 1996 - I made a website called chill.net - it's not live anymore though!

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I registed mycv.net many years ago and have always meant to do something with it.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

I offer a completely free service that offers more than any other simular site.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

I hope to build a massive database of CV's that can then be licensed to recruitment agencies.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

I enjoy creating websites - if money comes from it one day, then that's a bonus.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Not a lot would change except that I'd be able to heavily promote the website on and off-line.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes as I have extensive skills regarding server admin.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

None yet!

What has been your biggest challenge?

Getting visitors - very hard these days.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Adwords to start with. Then some interesting SEO techniques that are TOP SECRET : )

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

It's been fun from start to finish.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

It's only been live a week or so.

How many domain names do you own?

Hundreds!

What is your website address?
